M40i Pure Impulse AT (₹91.70L) is the 8-speed Steptronic Sport auto — launch control, adaptive M suspension, M Sport differential, 26.03cm touchscreen with BMW Live Cockpit Professional, Harman Kardon audio, electric fabric soft top (10 seconds, up to 50 km/h), Vernasca leather and 19-inch M alloys. M40i Pure Impulse 6MT (₹95.20L) is the enthusiast special — the same inline-six with a proper 6-speed manual gearbox, a combination that's nearly extinct in new cars. Most buyers land at M40i Pure Impulse AT (₹91.70L) — the Steptronic is quicker and easier in traffic, with identical kit — without paying ~₹3.50L extra for Pure Impulse 6MT's three-pedal purist experience that only matters if rowing your own gears is the whole point of a roadster.

- Living With The Z4 M40iLiving with the Z4 M40i felt less like driving a compromised sports car and more like owning a pocket-sized GT. The real surprise wasn't the explosive power of the straight-six, which is addictive, but, how effortless it was to live with daily; the adaptive suspension is shockingly plush in Comfort mode, and the cabin remains quiet enough at 70 mph for a normal conversation. Even with my heavy right foot, I was seeing a respectable 24-26 mpg on mixed commutes, which is wild considering the performance on tap. It's the kind of car that's civil enough for a grocery run but transforms the second you find an open tunnel and drop the top.Read More

- April 10, 2025: A new M40i Pure Impulse Edition of the Z4 has been launched in India with both manual and automatic choices. It is for the first time that any Z4 model has been provided with a manual gearbox in India.
